Cooper Pedy

This is how the town looks like... not very attractive, seems like the end of the world almost.

Crazy golf place, you can cross the golf place with a car (the road goes through it). However it's not always safe to cross, since you don't only have to watch out for golf balls, when golfers get too excited/ angry about the game, it wouldn't be the first time someone throws something away out of anger (that's the flying objects warning on the sign). ha!
There was also a sign "don't walk on the grass", funny since there is no grass at all!

Cooper Pedy, the end of the world... that's why they used this location for many movies. For example "Mad Max 3", "Priscilla, queen of the desert",...
and this spaceship, from the movie "Pitch Black".

Just an artistic local, who built this on top of his underground house.

living underground in Cooper Pedy

an underground church... (two first pictures).

our underground camping spot in Cooper Pedy.
just like they told us, inside it was warm enough to sleep (while outside it was almost freezing).

our "sleeping room" for the night.
moving the bed from the campervan to the underground :)!

cooper pedy, mining town

Cooper Pedy, in the middle of the desert. A small mining town, but be carefull! Many holes in the ground (because of the mines), don't fall in one of them. (although you are not allowed to walk near the mines, so this isn't a problem if you keep on the road or stay with the tour guide - safe in the bus).

on the road in the desert

road trucks in the desert

try to pass one of these on the road. and driving in the desert means, you have to follow it at least until the next place to stop, which is often more than 100 kms.... or like I said, try to pass it!

Uluru also called Ayers Rock, 1th of August

this is why they call it the red desert... and behind me there is Uluru.

Really amazing how this is all just one rock! a flat desert and suddenly there is this big monolith (should be the second biggest in the world).
